Ans: Franz noticed some unusual things on that day, these are as follows:
1. There were no any great bustle/noise, nothing the sound of opening and closing desks, not lessons repeated in unison with very loud, and not the teacher’s great ruler rapping on the table.
2. That day, everything was as quiet as Sunday morning.
3. Also, Franz was not scolded/rebuked for his very late to school. 
4. On that day, M. Hamel wore his beautiful green coat, his frilled shirt and the little black silk cap which were all embroidered. Actually, these were worn only on inspection and prize days.
5. Besides, the whole school seemed so strange and solemn.
6. Again, the back benches were filled up by the village people (like the old Hauser with his three-cornered hat, the former mayor, the former postmaster and several others)
7. Everybody was looking sad for the last lesson of French language.
8. All the lessons like reciting, grammars, writings, history were taught on that day.
9. Specially, M. Hamel taught very beautifully on the last lesson.
10. Surprisingly, little Franz heard very carefully and understood all the lessons.

Ans: On the bulletin-board, all the bad news for the last two years like the lost battles, the draft, the orders of the commanding officer and most other bad news had been put up there. So, there was a crowd in front of the bulletin-board.

5.How did Franz’s feelings about M. Hamel and school change ?
Ans:
 Franz’s feelings about M. Hamel were that he was very sorry for that day.  When everyone was writing at that time, M. Hamel was sitting motionless in his chair and gazing/staring one thing to another as if he wanted to attach/fix all things in his mind. He had been there for forty years with his garden outside the window and his class in front of him just like that. Only the desks and benches had been worn smooth. The walnut-trees in the garden were taller and the hopvine that he had planted himself twined about the windows to the roof. At that time, his heart had been broken to leave it all. His sister was moving about in the room above and packing their trunks that meant they would leave the country next day.     
                Franz felt the school changes as follows:

Ans:
On the last class of French language, all the village people came to the school and sat on the back benches. Old Hauser, the former mayor, the former postmaster and several others were present in the last class that means they realised the precious French language on that moment.
This was happened because the order had come from Berlin to teach only German in the school of Alsace and Lorraine.

7. Franz thinks, “Will they make them sing in German, even the pigeons?” What could this mean?
Ans: The order had just then come from Berlin to teach only German in the schools of Alsace and Lorraine. The new master would come from the next day. So, Franz thought that everything would be happened with the German language from the next day. Besides, he thought that they would make the pigeons sing in German language also.

Or: Why did Franz afraid of to go to school that day?
Ans: Franz had a great dread of scolding because M. Hamel said that he would question them on participles. But, Franz did not know the first word about participles.

                The speaker said like this because that day was the last lesson of French language and so it was not so complicated/restriction to reach the class on time.

Ans: When M. Hamel wanted to go fishing then he gave his students a holiday.

After all the lessons, he took a piece of chalk and wrote as large as he could, “Vive La France!” and made a gesture that school was dismissed- they might go.
