1. Who was Verrier Elwin ? Where did he make his second home?
Ans: Dr. Verrier Elwin was an eminent British author and anthropologist. He made the north-east his second home.

2. What does show Dr. Verrier Elwin deep concern for the people of north –east region?
Ans: Dr. Verrier Elwin's writings on the tribal people of north-east India show his deep concern for the people of this region.

Ans ‘The impression of Assam” has been taken from the collected works of Satish Ch. Kakati which is edited by Prof. Dilip Kr. Kakati.

Ans: The author spent at various times about four months in Assam.

Ans: The author loved and sought of beauty of Assam. He had intoxicated/interested with the delight of the natural scene. He loved the grace and charm of the people. He also surprised to see the human relationship, courtesy and friendliness of Assam.

Ans:      The author mentions that it is unhappily a rare thing of courtesy and hospitality in this modern world of competition and rivalry. In this modern world, all are going competition and after the money. These friendliness, hospitality and courtesy are not availed in this modern world among the modern people.
            In contrast, the author loved and sought of beauty of Assam. He had intoxicated/interested with the delight of the natural scene. He loved the grace and charm of the people. He also surprised to see the human relationship, courtesy and friendliness of Assam. He had seen so much courtesy and friendliness in ordinary people, from shop keepers, from the chap who helped to inform the way on the road and also from officials and above all from the hill folk. He mentioned that he had seen the tradition of hospitality and friendliness which was a great and precious thing for Assam.

Ans:  The author Dr. Verrier Elwin exited at the Kaziranga Game Reserve. The author went to East Africa and spent a lot of time in famous Sanctuaries but he only observed hippopotamus but not a single rhino there. Instead, in Kaziranga, within a couple of hours, he had seen a dozen of rhinos. He had seen many rhinos, some were irritable but most of them made him charming when he visited by elephant and took photograph.

9. What difference does Verrier Elwin draw between the Game Sanctuaries of Kenya and Kaziranga? 
Ans : In the game sanctuaries of Kenya and Tanganyka , there is a sort of tradition that everyone should co-operate to make the Sanctuaries a success  and a lot of money is spent on them. But no one would dream of poaching. Also, there are not so much animals on these sanctuaries.
 Instead, in Kaziranga Game Sanctuary, anyone can see hundreds of giraffes, Zebras, ostriches, wild elephants and even lions, wandering about near the roads in perfect confidence. They are very fond of man and friendliness.

10. Why does Kaziranga make a real success than East Africa’s Sanctuaries?
Ans: The East Africans are carnivorous and violent people. They haunt the animals. But, India has a tradition of non-violence and brotherhood with animals. So, Kaziranga makes a real success than East Africans.

11. What appeal does the author make to the scholars of Assam concerning the songs and poems of the state? Why does he make this appeal?
Ans: The author mentions that the songs and poems of Assam are very interesting and meaningful. The boys of Assam sing some songs which words ought to know. This appeal does the author makes to the scholars of Assam concerning the songs and poems of the state to learn and observe the songs and poems of Assam.
The author appeals like this because the most of the school boys prefer jazz music from Hollywood but not interest in own tradition. Also, the author mentions that most of the folk-tales, myths, poems and songs in the hills of Assam have not ever been written down.

12. Why, according to Verrier Elwin, should wood carving be taught and encouraged in our educational centers?
Ans: The author excited very much at the carving in wood of Assam. The Thangkhuls of Manipur make splendid decorations on their houses as Maos and Marams. The Konyaks adorn their morungs; the Angamis make magnificent village gates; the Phoms and other tribes are expert in fashioning images and pipes and also in decorating drinking mugs or making toys. Some of these are of extraordinary vigor and beauty. We should not let it be lost. At this situation, not so many educational centres are avail in Assam for teaching and encouraging the art of wood-carving.
                     So, according to Verrier Elwin, it should be taught and encouraged in our educational centers on wood carving.

Ans:- The author wonders the sense of colour of Assam. The author informs as the Gandhiji words that the maidens of lovely Assam weave poems on their handlooms. The author also informs that women of Assam produce textiles of exquisite taste and sophisticated colour.

14. How does the author describe the personal decoration of Assam?
Ans:- The author describes the personal decoration of hill people of Assam as so wonderful. The Kabuls and Kachas make some car ornaments from the lovely blue wings of birds. They also use scintillating wings of beetles, the natural stones, beads of cowries and flowers for their beautiful decoration. The author also surprises at the arrangement of the clothes which likes a symphony of wild flowers where everything matches.

Ans:- Sola topi is a form of head-gear long ago abandoned by Europeans in India, or a parody of western dress  to the fine, simple natural attire.

Ans: Mr. Raymond Mortimer was a discerning critic who recently visited India .He had founded that the beautiful people of India could be so fond of ugly things. Also, he admitted that many Indian homes; there are ugly furniture, ugly clothes and ugly pictures.
                                In the authors view, if Mortimer had gone to the hill villages then he would not able to say like that.

17. “You have a great treasure there”--- What treasure is Verrier Elwin referring to and what is his suggestion about the treasure?
Ans: Dr. Verrier Elwin mentions that in Assam, there is a great treasure which consists of many beautiful natural things. There is a good taste of the sense of colour and form, the delight in beauty, the love of rhythm, and the right in music. In Assam sanctuaries like Kaziranga, there are several animals than East African’s sanctuaries. The art of work and music are wonderful which ought to know.  The carving in wood of Assam makes splendid decorations on most of the houses. The Assam is also famous for maidens for which Gandhiji once said that ‘the maidens of lovely Assam weave poems on their handlooms’.  In Assam, women produce textiles of exquisite taste and sophisticated colour. For these reasons, the author comments, “You have a great treasure there”.
On this regard, the author suggests that we should never look down on the simple and natural things of our villages and to Study them with love and sympathy. Also the author mentions that these great treasures cannot be manufactured by the factory or ordered by an office.
